Adoptable Dogs of the Month: February 2021

Even though pet adoptions have been on the rise for the last year, there are still thousands of pups waiting to find forever homes. These adorable adoptable dogs are available this month at different shelters and rescues across the country.

Cairo is a handsome 3-year-old German Shepherd/Lab mix who enjoys giving big hugs and playing fetch. He’s a resident of Emerald City Pet Rescue in Seattle, WA, who can be nervous around new people, but he’ll be a friend for life once he gets to know you. Cairo has been neutered, microchipped and is up to date on vaccinations.

Once he’s all yours, bring Cairo to nearby Westcrest Dog Park for some off-leash fun. The park is fully fenced with plenty of open space, a doggy drinking fountain and benches.

Founded in 2013, Emerald City Pet Rescue believes that “love can save lives.” The organization has rescued countless abused, neglected and abandoned dogs from overpopulated shelters across the country. A staff of caring individuals and dedicated volunteers is committed to ensuring that every pup in need receives a second chance.

Bella is a 6-year-old ball of energy who can be found at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas, NV. She loves long walks and never turns down a soothing back scratch or head rub. If you’re looking for a loyal hiking buddy, Bella is the girl for you. She is spayed and ready to bring joy into her forever home.

Once Bella has joined your pack, she can stretch her legs at Dog Fancier’s Park, located 5 miles from The Animal Foundation. This fully fenced, off-leash park has separate areas for large and small dogs, shade trees, and plenty of benches and picnic tables.

The Animal Foundation has been rescuing homeless and mistreated dogs in the Las Vegas Valley since 1978. It’s currently the highest volume single-site animal shelter in America. All dogs are rehabilitated and socialized to prepare them for life outside the shelter. Pups also receive daily exercise in an effort to build trust with people and reduce stress.

Sissy is a 5-year-old Terrier mix with a face to love. Currently residing at Young-Williams Animal Center in Knoxville, TN, she’s a shy girl with a sweet disposition and gentle nature. After spending time in a foster home, Sissy is ready to find a home to call her own, and will make the perfect addition to any family.

Get acquainted with your new best friend by taking her for a quiet stroll at nearby Lakeshore Park. Leashed dogs are permitted to romp across meadows and explore the walking trails that run along the scenic Tennessee River.

Young-Williams Animal Center is a no-kill shelter committed to finding permanent homes for dogs and cats that deserve a good life. In 2020 alone, it facilitated over 4,900 adoptions. The dedicated staff will match pet parents with the perfect pup and help arrange in-person meet and greets.

Brock is a 6-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier who loves outdoor fun and squeaky toys. When he’s not running and playing with his pals at The Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines, IA, he’s busy warming hearts as a lovable cuddle buddy. Brock is neutered and knows basic commands like sit, shake and lie down.

You and Brock can peruse the open-air artwork at Pappajohn Sculpture Park, nestled in downtown Des Moines. Leashed dogs are allowed to sniff sculptures made by some of the world’s most renowned artists.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is the state’s largest nonprofit animal shelter. Thanks to the organization’s tireless work, close to 10,000 animals were saved and 7,000 adoptions were arranged in 2020. All rescues are given proper medical care and receive behavioral rehabilitation prior to adoption. Discounts for seniors and military veterans are also offered.

Tipping the scales at 100 lbs, Diego is the definition of a big ol’ bundle of love. Sheltered at The Animal Welfare League of Arlington in Arlington, VA, this 2-year-old handsome hound does well on a leash and never saw a treat or toy he didn’t like. He can be a bit anxious and will require lots of attention, but he can’t wait to greet his new owners with a sloppy kiss.

Diego won’t have to go far to get a taste of freedom. Located across the street from the rescue, Shirlington Dog Park allows pups to roam the massive off-leash fenced area and splash around in the rocky stream.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington has been sheltering animals in need and finding forever homes for pups in the Northern Virginia area since 1944. Thousands of furry companions are matched with loving individuals and families every year. At the present time, all adoptions are conducted virtually.

Cute, sweet and playful, Jelly Bean has an infectious personality that is certain to bring warmth and happiness to any home. A resident of Paws Crossed Animal Rescue in Elmsford, NY, this adorable Cattle Dog/Terrier mix greets everyone with a happy tail wag and will be yours forever with a soft belly rub. Jelly Bean is a little over a year old and is up to date on all her vaccinations.

Spend some quality alone time with Jelly Bean by visiting the Hardscrabble Wilderness Area Trail. Leashed pups can explore this 3.5-mile hiking trail that cuts through thick forests, winds over rolling hills, and passes by woodland streams.

Started in 2016, Paws Crossed Animal Rescue is a no-kill shelter with a mission to “Rescue One by One Until There Are None.” It’s responsible for over 2,000 successful adoptions since its inception, and strives to educate communities on how to create a better world for animals. Currently sheltered at the Worcester Animal Rescue League in Worcester, MA, Fletcher has been waiting for a forever home since his previous owner surrendered him after relocating. This one-and-a-half-year-old happy boy loves chewing on squeaky toys when he’s not melting hearts with his big brown eyes. Fletcher is neutered and house-trained.

Fletcher can belly up to the bar with you at Redemption Rock Brewing Co., located 4 miles from the rescue. Sample a variety of local craft beers while your new furry family member makes friends. Leashed dogs are allowed inside and on the outdoor patio, weather permitting.

Since 1912, the Worcester Animal Rescue League has been protecting and caring for homeless and abandoned animals throughout Central Massachusetts. Its National Rescue Program also takes in dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters around the country. In addition, the Senior for Senior Program waives all adoption fees for senior citizens who adopt an animal over 10 years of age.
