New Dog Parks and Pet-Friendly Attractions: April
Posted by Sophia Hawk
The Dog House
New Orleans finally has its own dog park bar and it exceeds all expectations! The Dog House, which opened its doors in February, features an outdoor off-leash dog park with plenty of seating so you can keep your furry friend company while he plays. Outside of the fence, enjoy a cocktail from the indoor/outdoor bar and a delicious sandwich from the restaurant. Treats for Fido are also available for purchase, and you’ll find water stations throughout the park. Memberships are required for dogs to ensure all vacations are up-to-date.
Once your pup is worn out from a day of making new friends, drop by the Virgin Hotels New Orleans for a night of rest in luxury. Pet beds, bowls, and stylish Virgin bandanas are available at check-in, and Lafayette Square, which features grassy spaces and walking paths, is just a five-minute walk from the hotel.
Allied Gardens Dog Park
San Diego’s Navajo community has long been awaiting their very own space for canines, and the Allied Gardens Dog Park is now open for furry visitors. This fenced-in dog recreation space is 68% larger than other dog parks in the San Diego area, and it houses separate areas for small and large pups, tree stumps for climbing and sitting, a dog drinking fountain, trash and recycling bins, and waste bags. There is plenty of room to run and play, and the abundant trees provide shady areas to keep everyone comfortable.
Get a good night’s rest at the dog-friendly Kimpton Alma - San Diego an IHG Hotel, which welcomes pets of any size for no pet fee, and provides dog beds, bowls and treats at check-in. Take Fido for a walk at the Horton Plaza Historic Park, just a two-minute stroll from the hotel.
Hops & Hounds Avenue B
After closing their original location, San Antonio’s local dog bar has opened a new hangout, Hops & Hounds Avenue B, with more exciting features for Fido. Your pup will love running and playing at the huge fenced-in outdoor dog park which includes a variety of seating options, water fountains, toys, agility equipment, and trees for shade. There’s an outdoor bar and an indoor/outdoor restaurant with a walk-up window, so you’re never out of your dog’s view. Stop by on the weekends with your furry friend and you might catch a DJ or a live band. Everyone is welcome in the bar area, but membership is required to use the dog park and day passes are available.
Close to this new dog bar, you’ll find the dog-friendly La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham San Antonio Downtown, which features a convenient grassy area on the property for pet relief.
Lovebound Library
Romance-focused bookstores are exceedingly on the rise, and the woman-owned local Lovebound Library is the newest addition to Salt Lake City’s thriving book scene. The employees adore dogs, so your leashed pup is more than welcome to join you inside this cute shop while you browse, and he may even receive a treat! The shelves are lined with colorful novels that all live within the romance genre, and merch such as bookmarks, candles, and mugs are also available for purchase.
Spend a cozy quiet night cuddling with your pup and perusing your purchases at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Salt Lake City-Airport West an IHG Hotel, which allows dogs of any size for a small fee and provides grassy areas for Fido.
Rockin' River Ranch State Park
Rockin’ River Ranch State Park, located in Camp Verde, is the first state park that Arizona has established in over eight years. Your leashed pup can join you in exploring this 209-acre recreation space that features high desert terrain perfect for hiking, wildlife viewing, mountain biking and picnicking. There are six trails to explore that range from 0.2 miles to 1.7 miles, perfect for a day out in nature with your furry friend.
After you’re both tuckered out from your adventure in the wilderness, you and Fido can rest your heads at the Comfort Inn Camp Verde I-17, a dog-friendly hotel with designated pet relief stations on the property.
Balloon Museum
Visiting a pet-friendly museum is always enjoyable, but the Balloon Museum in Atlanta is an even more uniquely good time, as all of their exhibits feature ‘air’ as the distinctive element. You and your pup will see inflatable artwork featuring bright, vibrant colors and all different sizes and shapes. Almost all of it is also interactive, keeping your attention, and teaching you something new along the way. You can also find pet-friendly Balloon Museum locations in London and Naples.
Upon your departure from this new museum, spend your evening at the Kimpton Overland Hotel - Atlanta Airport an IHG Hotel, a property that requires no pet fee, provides pet bowls, beds, and treats at check-in, and has grassy areas on site for your pup.
