Vortexes and More on a Guided Jeep Tour

Sedona, AZ

No trip to Sedona would be complete without an off-road adventure in one of the town's ubiquitous four-wheel drive Jeeps. Fortunately for Fido, A Day in the West offers you and your dog the chance to explore the area's canyons and natural rock formations on your own fur-flying escapade. The family-owned company offers a number of guided tours in and around the Coconino National Forest, including the Mogollon Rim Tour, which features breathtaking panoramic views courtesy of an exhilarating ascent to an elevation of 7,500 feet. If you want to see a particular site or attraction, customized tours are available for you and your pup. A Day in the West operates daily with private tours ranging from 90 minutes to three hours.

After a day of adventure on the Red Rocks, luxury awaits at the El Portal Sedona. Hotel dogs Dexter and Oliver are on duty to ensure that canine guests receive a special treat and other pet amenities at check-in. Each of this boutique property’s guest suites is pet friendly, and several feature enclosed private patios. When it’s dinner time, walk your pooch to nearby Creekside American Bistro, where he can order steak tartare from the doggy menu.

Float Lake Powell

Located on the border of Arizona and Utah, Lake Powell is best known for two things - houseboating and the spectacular scenery of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. With a pet-friendly houseboat rental from Wahweap Marina in Page, you can easily enjoy both with man’s best friend! After a brief introduction to houseboating at the full-service marina, set off on an adventure to Rainbow Bridge or explore the lake’s 1,800 miles of shoreline. Lounge on the deck and soak up some sun as your home on the water floats through one of the scenic slot canyons. See the sunrise from the outer deck, drop a line over the side for an afternoon of fishing, and enjoy dinner under the stars with your canine companion.

Wahweap Marina allows dogs of any size on houseboats for an additional fee of $10 per pet, per night. If you want to experience the lake, but aren’t comfortable driving a 46-foot houseboat, you can rent a small powerboat for the day and stay at the Lake Powell Resort instead.

Fly High With Your Hound

Tucson, AZ

Put on Snoopy’s aviator hat and head to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, one of the best pet-friendly museums of its kind in the country. You and your furry co-pilot can meander through six hangers and view almost 400 aircraft on display, including a Wright Flyer, a Boeing 787, and a Douglas A-26 Invader from World War II. You can spend hours perusing the exhibits to learn about sea planes, amphibians, aircraft carriers, women in flight, and so much more. Included with your ticket is admission to the 390th Memorial Museum, which houses the last B-17 Flying Fortress flown by any branch of the US Military and details the experiences of the 390th Bomb Group who were captured during World War II. Pups are not allowed on trams or the AMARG tours.

Touch down for the night at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. Your pup will be treated to a ‘Loews Loves Pets’ amenity kit upon arrival. Don’t miss the pet room service menu offering delicious, one-of-a-kind items from the hotel’s executive chef. If you’d prefer to dine out alongside Fido, head to the hotel’s dog-friendly Cascade Lounge or the patio of Bill’s Grill.
