4 p.m. Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel

When you check into the Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, your pup will be welcomed with a treat at the front desk. The pet-friendly beachfront hotel also has cushy amenities for Fido including plush beds, water bowls and waste bags. After you’ve unpacked, have a drink and roast s’mores with your dog by a fire pit in the courtyard at the nightly wine reception. Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach Resort welcomes pets of all sizes for no additional fee.

6 p.m. Best Friend Dog Park

Let your four-legged friend run and play at Best Friend Dog Park before dinner. The dog park, located in Huntington Beach Central Park, spans 1.7 acres and is separated into two sections for large and small dogs. Fido can get hydration from the drinking stations supplied with fresh water. There are canopied areas for shade, and waste bag dispensers are conveniently located throughout both sides of the park. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

7 p.m. Pacific Hideaway

Have dinner on the patio at the Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel’s on-site restaurant, Pacific Hideaway. Enjoy views of the pier and Pacific Ocean as you sip on a Shorebreak Cerveza or the Scotty Doesn’t Know mocktail made with orange juice, Red Bull Orange Edition Thai Basil and green chile. Both pair well with the restaurant’s Latin American-Asian fusion cuisine. While you nosh on fish tacos, treat Fido to dinner from the restaurant’s 4-Legged Friends Menu. Choose from Fish and Sweet Potato, Chicken and Rice, or Beef and Vegetables. Save room for a slice of gluten-free Chocolate Coconut Cake or a bowl of fresh ice cream or sorbet.

8 p.m. Hands2Paws

After dinner and drinks, return to your hotel room to spoil your pup with an in-room massage from Orange County’s Hand2Paws. Opt for a 30-50 minute dog massage or the Canine & Companion Massage so you both can receive therapeutic treatments at the same time. Certified canine massage services range from $50 to $65 and should be booked at least 24 hours in advance. After his meal and rub down, Fido will sleep like a puppy.

8 a.m. Woody’s Diner

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at Woody’s Diner. Sit on the patio with your pup while you dine on a pre-beach SoCal breakfast like a breakfast burrito, huevos rancheros, avocado toast or a bowl of yogurt with granola. Woody’s has a variety of healthy, dog-friendly side orders that will make Fido lick his chops, including scrambled eggs, a turkey burger patty, chicken breast, turkey bacon and sausage patties.

9 a.m. Huntington Dog Beach

Located on a mile-long stretch of sand between Seapoint Avenue and 21st Street on the famous Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Dog Beach is a canine lover’s paradise and one of our favorite beaches on the West Coast. Orange County's only off-leash dog beach is nicknamed Surf City USA by locals and is a fun spot, whether your dog wants to ride a board or just romp in the sand. The weather is mild enough that your furry friend can go for a dip year-round.

1 p.m. Park Bench Cafe

Located in Huntington Beach Central Park, just a few miles from the beach, the Park Bench Cafe is a great spot to grab lunch with Fido. Since 1993, the Canine Cuisine menu has offered the Bow-Wow-Wow Chicken, Rover Easy Scrambled Eggs, Hot Diggity Dog (chopped hot dogs), Wrangler Roundup (turkey), and Hound Dog Heaven (ground beef) to four-legged diners in their own Doggie Dining Section. This section is located on the grass so pups can lay next to their owners at the umbrella-shaded tables. Humans rave about the sandwiches, wraps and all-day breakfast.

After you eat, return to Huntington Beach Best Friend Dog Park, located in the same park, to let your furry friend run off leash for a bit so he doesn’t get a tummy ache after his meal.

3 p.m. Dirty Dog Wash

After a busy day at the beach and the park, make your way to Dirty Dog Wash, located just a few blocks from Huntington Dog Beach. For the do-it-yourself price of $19-29 (depending on the size of your mutt), the service will provide you with all of the equipment and supplies you need to get Fido freshened up for a night on the town. Full-service grooming is also available by appointment.

5 p.m. Top Dog Barkery

Pop into Top Dog Barkery for a freshly baked pet pastry in bacon or peanut butter flavors for your pup. While you’re there, peruse the shop for a new collar, leash or toy for your four-legged friend as a memento from your OC vacay.

6 p.m. Fred’s Mexican Cafe

Get into a festive mood at Fred’s Mexican Cafe. Treat Fido to something yummy from Fred’s Dog Menu like Jacko’s Huevos or Leo’s Carne Asada Bowl while you sip on a cerveza grande and dip tortilla chips into melted queso. Dig into main courses like a grilled chicken quesadilla, seared ahi tuna tacos, surf and turf fajitas, and the California burrito. Every Monday night from 6 p.m. until midnight, the restaurant hosts Doggy Date Night on the patio, and dogs eat free with the purchase of an adult meal.

8 p.m. Huntington Harbor Boat Rentals

Rent a dog-friendly Duffy Electric Boat from Huntington Harbor Boat Rentals for an after-dinner cruise. There are no additional fees for your canine companion, however, the owners ask that you bring a blanket for Fido to lay on in the boat. Boat rental pricing starts at $200. Kayak and SUP rentals are also available with rates starting at $30.

10 p.m. BLK Earth Sea Spirits

Keep the fun going at BLK Earth Sea Spirits. Sit on the warm, covered patio and take in the ocean views with your furry friend. Enjoy a nightcap or a cup of coffee and one of the restaurant’s Cronut Sundaes. BLK Earth Sea Spirits has several signature cocktails; try the Tajimartini made with Hpnotiq Liqueur, Bacardi Coconut and pineapple juice for a tropical end to your evening.

8 a.m. Central Bark Dog Park

Let Fido burn off some energy at Central Bark Dog Park, a favorite of OC locals. The park has almost three grassy acres where your pup can play off leash. It features separate areas for large and small dogs, covered seating for owners and canine water fountains.

9 a.m. Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar

Break the fast at Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar’s location in Irvine. This dog-friendly chain welcomes dogs at outdoor tables and offers a menu just for its canine diners. Order your pup a chopped hamburger patty or grilled chicken breast with rice and veggies to start his day off right. You won’t feel left out as you chow down on Cheesy Eggs and Avocado Toast, Almond Butter French Toast or The Breakfast Club.

10 a.m. Main Beach Park in Laguna Beach

Visit Laguna Beach’s Main Beach Park where leashed pups are welcome at any time from mid-September through June. Take a long stroll in the sand with your leash in hand and let Fido have fun exploring the coves and tidepools found on this picturesque dog-friendly beach. Dogs are allowed the rest of the year during park hours, as long as they are on a leash and all mess is cleaned up after them.

1 p.m. Las Brisas

Enjoy a farewell margarita on Las Brisas’ pet-friendly patio next to the Pacific. Heaters and blankets are provided to keep away the chill while you munch on Mexican cuisine with a California twist. In addition to the margs and chips and salsa, try the fresh guacamole, grilled shrimp salad, classic ceviche, ahi poke, filet mignon and bacon tacos, or chimichurri skirt steak with fingerling potatoes and charred asparagus. After your appetite for dog-friendly adventure is satiated, depart Orange County with a happy heart and canine companion.
